Online Courses on Your Terms
You set your own path at WesternOnline. Depending on your schedule, learning style and professional goals, you may choose to study on a term-based or a self-paced schedule. With both course options, you access materials through Western’s learning management system, Canvas.
In term-based online courses (synchronous, asynchronous, and mixed), you have weekly interactions with your instructors and peers. These courses follow a quarterly schedule with assignment due dates designated throughout the quarter. Term-based learning is a strong option for students seeking more structure, accountability and opportunities to collaborate and network with professors and peers.
You can start self-paced courses any time. These are designed to be completed in 10–12 weeks, but you have up to 6 months to finish your coursework. You have no requirements for consistent interaction. Self-paced courses are ideal for students who want flexibility to learn at different speeds, as well as those who may need to take time away from learning during a given quarter.
