Self-Paced Tuition & Registration

How to Register for Western Online: Self-Paced Courses

Enrollment Deadline

Students may register at any time for Self-Paced courses. Courses will be registered on a student's WWU transcript at the time of registration based on the following dates:

Fall: August 1 - October 31
Winter: November 1 - February 28
Spring: March 1 - May 31
Summer: May 1 - July 31

Registration opens based on dates following the Important Dates and Deadlines and does not follow the suggested schedule exactly.

Timeline and Schedule

Self-Paced courses are set-up to be completed within 10-12 weeks just like the academic quarter. Generally, the minimum time allowed to complete any Self-Paced course is seven weeks from the time the first lesson is received by the instructor. The seven week minimum does not apply to courses with lessons numbering six or less.

Although Self-Paced students have as long as six months to complete their course work, students who are graduating before the end of the six months must finish their course by the end of the quarter of graduation. Students who use a Self-Paced course to qualify for financial aid must complete the course within the quarter that aid was received.

Enrollment in only Self-Paced courses may qualify as continuing enrollment for WWU students who take one quarter off during the academic year. The course will count for one academic quarter only and students must maintain an active registration on every quarter, with the exception of summer, to maintain matriculated status.

All WesternOnline courses are fully self-supporting, receiving no funds from the State Legislature. Fees are subject to change as the result of action by the Washington State Legislature or by Western’s Board of Trustees.

Agency or institutional purchase orders are accepted for tuition payment. Reduced tuition programs such as state employee tuition waivers do not apply.  Tuition does not include textbooks.

By registering, a student incurs a legal obligation to pay tuition and fees. This debt may be canceled only if the student officially withdraws before the appropriate course refund deadline.

Note: Courses in the departments of Accounting, Finance and Marketing, Decision Science, Management, Management Information Systems (MIS) and Operations Management are not available to academically dismissed students.
